Her discography spans eight full-length album releases—including two extensively reimagined and remixed immersive editions—as her music has evolved from progressive bluegrass through country, Celtic-influenced folk, and contemporary Americana.

Released August 17, 2026, Debra’s latest original single, “Did You Know,” was inspired by the tragic death of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse who was fatally shot while attending a Minneapolis protest in January 2026. Rather than focusing on politics, the song considers the human cost of hatred and intolerance and encourages listeners to “raise your voice against the noise,” choosing empathy and understanding over division. The track was produced, mixed, and mastered in Dolby Atmos by Debra’s longtime collaborator Jeff Silverman of Palette Music • Studio • Productions.

Debra’s 2025 single “’Til War Is No More,” which reflects on the human toll of war and a longing for peace, was named a Finalist for Best Folk Song in the 2025 World Songwriting Awards. Earlier that year, she released “The Death of Floyd Collins,” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Kentucky cave explorer’s tragic death. The recording was named Winner in the Bluegrass Category at the 2025 Hollywood Independent Music Awards.

Her album releases include Soulgrass (2002), the independent debut from the progressive bluegrass band; I Can’t Remember To Forget You (2009); A Cold Wind Blows (2014); the Celtic-influenced Blue Sun Rises (2020); I Can’t Remember To Forget You — 15th Anniversary Edition (2021); Soulgrass — Nobody Knows (2023), featuring the final recordings of Bluegrass Hall of Fame inductee Billy Ray Lathum; Ashes (2023); and A Cold Wind Blows (Evolution) (2024). The two anniversary/evolution projects extensively revisited earlier albums through new mixes, immersive Dolby Atmos production, new material, and, in some cases, reimagined arrangements.

Throughout her recording career, Debra’s work has received recognition from the Hollywood Independent Music Awards, Hollywood Music in Media Awards, World Songwriting Awards, Roots Music Report, and international radio. Her music has also been featured on NPR’s The Thistle & Shamrock and on the 2022 Peace for Ukraine benefit album.

Reviewers have praised both Debra’s songwriting and distinctive vocal style. John Apice of Americana Highways has noted the poignancy of her lyrics and compared her vocal presence to Dolly Parton at her most emotive and Reba McEntire at her most vivid. Debra Lyn is a Nashville-based Americana/Folk singer-songwriter and musician whose music is rooted in storytelling, emotional honesty, and a distinctive blend of acoustic, folk, country, bluegrass, and Celtic influences. Throughout that evolution, her songs have explored relationships and loss, resilience and compassion, history, social issues, and the experiences that connect us to one another.

Her recent work has increasingly drawn upon real events and the human stories behind them. That message of shared humanity also runs through “’Til War Is No More,” released July 11, 2025. Written and performed by Debra, the acoustic Folk/Americana ballad reflects on the human toll of conflicts in Israel/Gaza, Ukraine, and other war-torn regions. Its central refrain — “’Til war is no more, we will never be free” — expresses a simple longing for peace beyond borders and politics. Produced and mixed in Dolby Atmos by Jeff Silverman, the song was named a Finalist for Best Folk Song in the 2025 World Songwriting Awards.

Earlier in 2025, Debra released “The Death of Floyd Collins,” marking the 100th anniversary of one of America’s most compelling cave exploration tragedies. Written in 1925, the song tells the story of Kentucky cave explorer Floyd Collins, who became trapped in Sand Cave on January 30, 1925. His attempted rescue captivated the nation for two weeks and became one of the first major news events of the emerging broadcast era. Debra’s haunting new interpretation honors both Collins and the rescuers who fought to save him. The recording was named Winner in the Bluegrass Category at the 2025 Hollywood Independent Music Awards.

A Cold Wind Blows (Evolution)
Released August 30, 2024, A Cold Wind Blows (Evolution) is an extensively reimagined edition of Debra’s 2014 album rather than simply a reissue. Its 12 tracks were newly mixed and mastered in Dolby Atmos, creating a substantially different immersive listening experience. The album also includes a reimagined version of “So Long Since September” and the new track “Carried the Torch.” All of the songs were written or co-written by Debra and Jeff Silverman, who produced, mixed, and mastered the project.

Writing for Americana Highways, John Apice praised Debra for avoiding lyrical clichés, noting the poignancy of her writing and the way her voice “shines through the words superbly.”

Ashes
Debra’s 2023 album Ashes addresses subjects including homelessness, animal cruelty, loss, and resilience. Several songs were inspired by the untimely death of Tina Turner, incorporating elements of Turner’s life alongside experiences shared by people close to Debra.
Produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered in Dolby Atmos by Jeff Silverman, Ashes reflects Debra’s continuing interest in songs built around recognizable human experiences. Reviewing the album for Americana Highways, John Apice praised her richly conceived storytelling, vocal phrasing, and ability to bring an authentic personality to traditional country, bluegrass, and folk influences.

Soulgrass — Nobody Knows
Also released in 2023, Soulgrass — Nobody Knows preserves the final recordings of legendary banjo player and Bluegrass Hall of Fame inductee Billy Ray Lathum, known for his work with the Country Boys/Kentucky Colonels and the Dillards.

Released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Lathum joining Soulgrass, the collection includes seven previously unreleased recordings made in 2003, excerpts from a December 2002 live radio broadcast, and a 12-page booklet documenting Lathum’s history and his involvement with the band.

Two Debra Lyn originals from the project received Bluegrass nominations in the Hollywood Independent Music Awards: “You’re Gonna Leave” was nominated in 2024, and “If I Never Wake Up Again / Twist The Knife” was nominated in 2023.

I Can’t Remember To Forget You — 15th Anniversary Edition
Released in 2021, I Can’t Remember To Forget You — 15th Anniversary Edition extensively revisited Debra’s 2009 album and her first project with producer Jeff Silverman. Rather than a conventional anniversary reissue, the original tracks were remixed and mastered in Dolby Atmos 7.1.4, three new songs were added, and the title track received an entirely new arrangement and remix.

The project gave the earlier material a new life while reflecting the musical journey Debra had taken since its original release—from the country influences that helped shape the 2009 album to the Celtic character heard in her later work. “You Can’t Hold Me Close When You’re Holdin’ The Bottle” received a Producer/Production nomination in the 2021 Hollywood Music in Media Awards.

Of Debra’s vocals, Americana Highways wrote that she is “the missing link” between Dolly Parton at her most emotive and Reba McEntire at her most vivid.

Blue Sun Rises
Debra’s 2020 album Blue Sun Rises brings together her English, Scottish, and Irish musical heritage with contemporary Americana, folk, country, blues, and her own original material. Traditional favorites including “The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond,” “The Parting Glass,” and “Wayfaring Stranger” appear alongside original songs.

Produced, mixed, and mastered by Jeff Silverman, the album resulted in several singles and immersive releases. “Workin’ For The Money” and “Wayfaring Stranger” received 2019 Hollywood Music in Media Awards nominations in Americana/Folk/Acoustic and Producer/Production respectively. “Billy Taylor” was also featured on Fiona Ritchie’s NPR program The Thistle & Shamrock.

The holiday single “The Wexford Carol (Tom Billy’s Jig),” released in 2019 as an introduction to the Celtic/Folk/Acoustic direction of Blue Sun Rises, received a 2020 Hollywood Music in Media Awards nomination in the Holiday category.

In 2020, Debra also released “One Voice,” a song inspired by a world confronting a global pandemic and social injustice. It was later included on the 2022 Peace for Ukraine album created by former Bay City Rollers guitarist, singer, and songwriter Eric Faulkner to benefit the people of Ukraine.

A Cold Wind Blows
Released in 2014 and produced by Jeff Silverman, the original A Cold Wind Blows established much of the emotionally direct Americana songwriting that continues to characterize Debra’s work. The album received a four-star rating from Stacy’s Music Row Report, reached #16 on the Roots Music Report Weekly Top 50 Roots Rock Album Chart, and produced the single “Drunken Fool,” which reached #5 on SoundCloud’s Top 50 Country Chart.

In 2016, Debra and Jeff followed the album with a reimagining of the Spencer Davis Group/Steve Winwood classic “Gimme Some Lovin’.” The recording received a Producer/Production nomination in the Hollywood Music in Media Awards and reached #1 on SoundCloud’s Folk & Singer-Songwriter Chart.

I Can’t Remember To Forget You
Released in 2009, the original I Can’t Remember To Forget You marked the beginning of Debra’s long-running creative collaboration with producer Jeff Silverman. The album features nine original songs, most written by Debra and Jeff, as well as a distinctive interpretation of Harry and Sandy Chapin’s “Cat’s in the Cradle.”

Production on the album began while Debra and Jeff were living in California. The first video for the title track was filmed and produced by Jeff’s longtime friend Shari Belafonte and her husband, Sam Behrens, for Sowelu Entertainment.

The album also represented an important transition in Debra’s music, bridging the progressive bluegrass of her earlier work with Soulgrass and the country influences that had long been part of her musical identity.

Soulgrass
Debra’s full-length recording history began with Soulgrass, the independent self-titled 2002 album by the progressive bluegrass band of the same name. The original lineup featured Debra — then performing as Debbie Heavers — on lead vocals and bass guitar; David Gilbert Foster on acoustic guitar and vocals; Curtis Burch of New Grass Revival and The Great Dobro Sessions on dobro; Kentucky State Fiddle and Mandolin Champion Joel Whittinghill on mandolin and fiddle; and Joe Larson on banjo.

Two Soulgrass singles, including an original written by Debra, were released in the United States on the Prime Cuts of Bluegrass compilation. Nearly 400 radio stations across the United States, Australia, France, England, and the Netherlands reported airplay, and the Soulgrass recording of “Love Please Come Home” was added to the playlist for cable television’s Music Choice.

That independent Soulgrass album began a recording history that now encompasses eight full-length releases. From progressive bluegrass and country to Celtic-influenced folk, contemporary Americana, and immersive Dolby Atmos production, Debra Lyn’s music has continued to evolve while remaining centered on one constant: the story and the people at the heart of it.
