“The Only One” isn’t actually a Christmas song. It was written one winter day when I was thinking back to growing up in New York State. Getting around in the snow can make life feel overwhelming. Sometimes you’d just like to call in sick and crawl back under the covers. Then you realize that there’s always something to do that can’t be done by anyone but you. But, sometimes when you do manage to poke your head outside, you see the beauty and you realize you’re not as alone as you might think.

Verse 1:
It’s thirty two degrees, snowed 2 feet
and there’s more expected to come
She’d give anything to call in sick,
but there’s always something to do
That can’t be done by anyone but you
Chorus:
And every day she feels so tired
She wonders how she’ll live till tonight
The only one, she thinks she’s the only one
Verse 2:
Further down the road stuck in a big snowbank,
he’s cursin’ his luck
He turns the radio up loud, watches snow fall down
and wonders why this luck follows him around
He can’t get up when he’s always fallin’ down.
Chorus:
And every day he feels so tired
He wonders how he’ll live till tonight
The only one, he thinks he’s the only one
Bridge:
Suddenly a face at his window
With a smile as bright as sun on the snow
He’s not alone
Not the only one
It’s thirty two degrees, snowed 2 feet
and there’s more expected to come
It’s thirty two degrees, snowed 2 feet
and there’s more expected to come
It’s thirty two degrees, snowed 2 feet
and there’s more expected to come
